Adjusting a Fountain's Water Flow

Posted by harper4636 at 03:33 PM on June 12, 2009 Comments comments (0)

One of the great delights in owning a decorative garden fountain is watching and hearing the splashing, trickling water. Depending on the size and type of fountain, water can fall from the height of several feet into a lower basin. This creates a wonderfully soothing noise, but it can also create a potential hazard. Falling water can splash outside the fountain basin and create a slippery hazard, especially on outdoor concrete pavers or patio areas. Indoors, fountain over-splash poses an issue for ceramic and wood flooring. Always adjust the flow of water from the pump to avoid these problems. By turning the pump down a bit, you can avoid over-splashing while still getting a pleasant noise from your fountain.

3. LED – LED lighting is still in its infancy. Even so, there are a wide range of products on the market. Look for new desk lamps and light bulbs that will last for years.

4 Get in Tune with Nature – The organic look is strong with lighting and home décor drawing inspiration from natural shapes and materials.

5 Ceiling Fans – Fans will keep you cool in the summer, warmer in the winter, and will help lower your energy bills.

6. Modern Crystal – The new crystal looks nothing like the old designs. Modern designs use colored crystal, unusual shapes and chrome frames to get their bling.

7. Lighting Collections – Take the guesswork out of decorating with collections that offer a unified look. Add a table lamp, chandelier and ceiling light and be right in style.

8. Swags – Easy to install, swag style chandeliers are an inexpensive way to add new style to a room. Just install a hook in the ceiling and plug them in for an instant makeover!

Heating and Cooling with Your Ceiling Fan

Circulate the air in your home by changing your ceiling fan direction in the summer and winter seasons. In the summer you need to make sure your fan is turning counterclockwise. You want a downward breeze in the summer so that you feel the cool air blowing down on you. In the winter you want the fan to blow upward so as to redistribute the hot air which collects at the ceiling area. You would accomplish this by having the fan turn clockwise.

Decorating in Small Spaces with Wall Mirrors

If you live in a small apartment or are faced with a small house room, you know the problems; overcrowded rooms, undersized wall areas, a lack of depth and space. For hundreds, designers have solved these problems with the humble wall mirror. Mirrors are great for creating the illusion that a room is larger than it really is. Arrange one on a wall to reflect sunlight, outside trees or greenery, and cityscapes. Place mirrors in narrow hallways to make them feel less claustrophobic and closed in. And then there’s the glamour factor! A mirror placed in a dining room will reflect and scatter the light from candles or accent lighting creating instant chic and visual appeal.

How to Clean a Fountain Pump

Regular cleaning of your new fountain’s pump will keep it working at optimal efficiency. For starters, all pumps must be used while being completely covered with water. Do not run a pump with low water levels in the fountain. To clean a pump, first unplug it. Remove any leaves or dirt that has built up on the pump itself. Check the tubing that is connected to the pump for debris or other clogs. If the tubing is old or kinked, you might want to consider replacing it. If the pump has a removable cover, you can take it off and check for any leaves, debris or algae that may have built up inside the unit. Replace the cover and tubing, then add clean water to the fountain. You can also add a drop or two of anti-algae or water treatment solution to the water at this time. Doing these steps every six months or so should keep your pump operating worry-free.
